Spanish & Τango
An innovative proposal for the tango community.
In 6 months we get a full picture of the historical conditions that gave birth and transformed argentine tango. We built understanding of common Rioplatense words in Spanish, we develop the skill to translate tango lyrics, we get a hint of Buenos Aires slang (lunfardo) and we have an overview of the subjects treated in tango pieces.

The course is held in collaboration with the argentine tango school TANGart.
How is Spanish in Río de la Plata region
different than other varieties;
Spanish can present several differences among all the areas where they are spoken. The area of Río de la Plata between Uruguay and Argentina, is an example of a higly differenciated Spanish variety called rioplatense.
The particularities can be observed on 3 levels:

Phonetic (pronunciation)

Lexical (different words)

Grammatical (different verb forms)
This variation of Spanish is geographically specific and, due to its many special traits, it can be separately studied, even if you know Spanish of Spain or México, for example. This course creates the perfect bridge between you and the argentine speaking worldwide TANGO community.
WHAT IS INCLUDED?
This is a crash course in Spanish with a specific purpose, that of understanding TANGO lyrics and culture.
It includes:

Lectures and PPT on History and Sociology of TANGO

Linguistic material specifically designed for the course: frequent tango vocabulary, slang chapter and basic grammar you will need)

Group Interactive Translation of Lyrics.

Suitable for Spanish Beginners

Study at home required (1 to 2 hours per week).
WHY DO I NEED THIS;
TANGO music included lyrics since a very early stage, narrating stories or sharing feelings in its very own way. A TANGUERO who can understand the meaning of songs can connect with them on a deeper level. Words and feeling are inscribed in the soul and make a favourite song a lot more personal than only the level of music, allowing you a much more expressive interpretation and rich overall experience while dancing.
Thus appears the need to understand the language of TANGO.
For those of you who wish to know more, but cannot dedicate years to general Spanish, we have designed this course. Focused on our community and argentine specialties, this intensive course will TAKE YOUR TANGO TO THE NEXT LEVEL.
RESULTS

After completing the cycle SPANISH & TANGO you will be able to understand the main idea of almost every tango song and arrive to a detailed translation on the easiest of them.

You will fully understand what formed the unique identity of TANGO.

For participants who had a previous knowledge in Spanish, you will enrich your vocabulary and cultural references. You will also have an advantage for upper level Spanish, where geographical varieties are used in various parts of language exams.

Last, but not least, your TANGO will deeply be transformed.
